Hillwalking skills course PDF Print E-mail

This three day course covers all the skills to safely lead you or a small party of friends around the British mountains in summer conditions. The aim is to cover skills such as navigation, route choice, weather, simple ropework and equipment.

On day one we will look at navigation and personal and group equipment. On day two we will start the day with a look at weather and then spend the rest of the day navigating. During this day will look at the finer details of micro navigation, including pacing and compass work. On day three we will look at the simple use of the rope on broken ground should you find yourselves in such terrain; we will also look at river crossing during the day.

The second and third days are part of a expedition into the hills and therefore we will be spending the second night 'under canvass'. Skills of campcraft can therefore be dealt with and we will be able to spend a few hours night navigating should you ever find yourself late of the hill; avoid that benightment or calling the rescue service.
