Hillwalking is probably the most popular
activity in our British mountains. But as we all know the weather can
be a little trying at times. Days like the photo on the left are treasured and
not forgotten. But on this particular day it was raining in the valley
with the cloud down to the lake.
Our courses for hill walkers look at all the essential skills to truly
enjoy our wonderful mountains. So if the weather closes in you will be
more confident with your navigation. You may decide to bag that extra
summit knowing that you have the skills to navigate in the dark.
Below we have advertised two courses, the Hillwalking skills course and the Navigation course.
However we are very aware that many people may prefer just a one course purely in navigation. We can put on such a course for any
number of people with a maximum ratio of one instructor to six
students. For prices please see the multi activity page on this
website. Please get in touch with us and we can put a course together to meet your requirements.
Scrambling is the next step from hill walking. It includes
the narrow ridges that abound our mountains like Striding or Swirrel Edge, or
the more challenging scrambles on St Sunday Crag, Gable and Pillar. With a grading system of its
own from grade 1 to 3S it can be a little daunting, especially when some of the
grade 3 scrambles have a reputation for being easy rock climbs.
Our courses at Ascent Training are designed to give the
first time scrambler a passion for the next step. Training you in the extra
skills necessary including confident movement over broken terrain and looking
after those around you.
For those already confident on grade 1 scrambles our
week long intermediate course will appeal. It covers all the skills necessary
to look after yourself on grade 2/3 scrambles including personal movement,
navigation, route choice and ropework.
The scrambling courses generally take place in The Lake District however they can take place in North Wales. There would need to be sufficient course members wishing to undertake a course in the Wales however, so please contact us.
