Introduction to caving (2 days)

  • Print
  • E-mail

This course is designed with the total novice in mind. Over the two days we will visit a couple of different cave systems in the Yorkshire Dales; the choice of cave will depend on the abilities and aims of the course members and the weather.

Ledge overlooking Alum Pot

During the course you will learn how the cave was formed (from a tropical sea bed over 300 million years ago to its present state), how to move efficiently underground whether climbing up or down or going through squeezes (we promise you won't get stuck!) while making it as challenging as you wish.

The course is run by fully qualified, experienced cavers who know the caves intimately. And as with all Ascent Training courses the staff to student ratio is high.

Testimonial

Thanks for a fantastic time on the introductory caving course at the beginning of December. I was a little apprehensive at the start but at every section you gave me options and I didn't have to do anything I didn't want to do. I felt reassured and safe and the caves you picked were interesting and had great variety. It was worth it all for the views out into the sunshine from behind the waterfall and the underground river, pools and waterfalls. As I say, I had a great time and would recommend it without reservation.

Regards, Steve
