Lake District Winter mountaineering

Our 5 day winter mountaineering course in the Lake District is designed for people who have summer walking experience and ideally for those who have ventured onto steeper terrain such as Striding edge in summer but this is not essential.

During the five days we will look at the use of ice axes and crampons including self-arrest and movement skills, navigation in winter, assessment of snow conditions, building simple snow anchors and movement on steep ground. The first two days will be used to learn the skills and the next two days putting them into practise on the classic peaks in the Lake District including the Coniston, Helvellyn and central fells. There will be a possibility to experience a winter climb on day five. The ratio will not exceed 1:4 and 1:2 on a climbing day.

The Course is based from Holly How Youth Hostel in Coniston and all food and accommodation is included.

The cost of the course is £475
