Caving the hidden earth! Stalagmites, stalactites, gour pools and fossils are all found among ancient phreatic, fossil and stream passages; these are just some of the amazing sights to be found underground in the Limestone areas of the UK and world-wide.
To journey into this hidden world you could be walking, stooping, crawling, abseiling, climbing waterfalls and ascending climbs.
Equipped with warm clothing, an oversuit, helmet and a lamp it is possible to explore this fascinating environment.
If you wish to go deeper you can learn the skills of abseiling and ascending a rope to reach the depths of our ancient caves.
Ascent Training run caving courses for all abilities, with introductory courses for complete novices, for those with some experience Single Rope Technique (SRT) training courses and for more experienced cavers courses in rigging and self rescue.
Our courses look at all aspects of caving including cave development, conservation and efficient progression underground and they are run by experienced, fully qualified and friendly cavers.
During the winter of 2007/8 guided days/trips taking you to the best of Yorkshire will take place every other wednesday evening. See below for more details,

This trip is to be based in the Vercors, France. It is aimed at cavers, proficient at caving using SRT, who have undertaken a number of caving trips in the UK under their own steam.
It is not a course but more an expedition to an Alpine caving region led by two experienced caver's (who both hold the Cave Instructor Certificate ) to give advice, help rig or facilitate caver's to descend the classic caves of the region.
The trip is taking place during the October half term in 2007 (20th to 28th). Using the weekends either side to travel, we will then have five full days caving.
This course is designed for cavers who are proficient in SRT for progression but would like to learn the skills needed to rig and de-rig a cave system. The course will be based in the Yorkshire Dales.
This course is designed for cavers who are travelling underground using SRT but would like to hone these skills. The aims and objectives of the students would be discussed with the instructors to determine an appropriate level for the course. The course will be based in the Yorkshire Dales.
This two or three day course to teach Single Rope Technique or SRT which is the most efficient method of reaching the depths of our caves. This course is designed for ‘cavers' who have experienced being underground in horizontal systems or possibly travelled vertically on ladder and life-line and wish to learn SRT methods. We will base the course in the Yorkshire Dales and we are likely to visit caves such as Alum pot (see photo below).
This course is designed with the total novice in mind. Over the two days we will visit a couple of different cave systems in the Yorkshire Dales; the choice of cave will depend on the abilities and aims of the course members and the weather.
