Paul had an excellent day on the ice to the right of Blea Water Gill. Ross contacted Ascent Training wishing to have a day climbing on some good ice and Blea Water fitted the bill. The weather and ice were superb as the photos show. All the routes were in good condition and the crag was popular today. Conditions generally in the Lakes are excellent.
Our Scottish winter climbing course has two aims - to climb as many routes as clients fitness allows and to leave after five days ispired to climb in winter again having learnt loads.
As the ratio all week is 1:2 it is possible to accommodate winter climbers with more experience including those who wish to lead for the first time or climb harder mixed and ice climbs. Please contact us to discuss your needs.

Over the last few years we have developed the company a great deal, initially set up to deliver specialist courses for climbers and cavers we now deliver courses for absolutely anyone interested in outdoor activities. Family activity courses are run from Holly How YHA as are many of the specialist rock climbing, scrambling, hillwalking and navigation courses. All our NGB awards such as the Mountain Leader and Single Pitch Awards are now run through Apex Training which is also directed by Paul Platt.
We now have an AALS license so young people can undertake skills courses without a parent or guardian present. We also deliver outdoor education courses for schools and youth groups. Many of these course run from Holly How , however courses can run from a wide range of locations across the UK. In the following pages you will see courses for mountaineering and caving activities on fixed dates. However, if you are unable to make these dates please contact Ascent Training and we will endeavour to arrange a course with dates that suit you.
