This course is designed for people
who have done some scrambling but would like to learn how to look after
themselves on more challenging terrain. During the course all the necessary
skills will be taught including personal movement, ropework skills, route
choice and navigation.
On the first day we will guide you up a classic Lakeland grade 3 scramble which may be Pinnacle Ridge on St Sunday Crag, Cam Crag Ridge in Langstrath or simialar. During this day we will explain how we are using the rope, explain route choice and the use of the guidebook and others skills you need including personal movement skills.
Over the next two days, under our observation, you will take the lead role and look after fellow students on technical scrambling ground where a rope may be needed.
The aims of the clients are very
important to us, so if you are more inclined to learn how to safeguard
yourself on grade 2/3 scrambles we will focus on this. However if you wish to have
a broader experience including the ascent of the classic ghylls in the Lakes we
will cover the extra skills they require. During the course we will be spend some time looking at navigation as this is a fundamental part of travelling around the mountains.
The staff ratios will not exceed 1:2 during the course
All instructors will hold the MIA
or MIC awards.
