Winter Mountaineering

alpine-sunrise What does winter bring besides the obvious! Stunning blue skies, perfect snow and ice, light winds or cloudy, windy and snowing? In Scotland anything can happen but that is part of the interest and when those cold crisp days do appear you'll never forget them!

For those of you who have never ventured into the hills in winter it can be a very daunting prospect with short days and poor weather possible. For rock climbers thinking of venturing onto ice for the first time this may be a scary thought, how do I place ice screws and how good is the ice?

Ascent Training's winter courses whether for the first time winter walker or ice climber are designed to inspire you to return to the winter wonderland and teach you the essentials to keep yourself save when you do return.

Our instructors are always friendly and fully qualified and we endeavour to tailor the course to the aims of the clients.

As well as courses in Scotland we are running a course/vacation to Rjukan, Norway in February.

Over recent years this has become known as a reliable and stunning alternative to alpine ice. With routes of varying lengths from 1 pitch to 17 pitches and easy angle ice to long vertical pitches, plus a good selection of technical mixed routes, there is something for everyone from novice to seasoned winter climber.
